The ATMOSPHERE of the NATURAL LANDSCAPE and the requirement of protection and continuity of the built environment became the main axis around which our proposal was developed. That is, the existing building is highlighted, while the proposal of the new shell, emerges as a continuity of TIME. In essence, the PLACE speaks, i.e. the PLACE SPEAKS. This is the Central Idea of the Proposal, which is TOPOLOGICAL and evolves AND in the mathematical sense of the term. That is, space is formed through a kind of generalized geometry, where we focus on the EXISTING BODY. The new building is born from the existing building, a volume that is reproduced from it, suspended, displaced and rediscovered in continuity, expanded , torn and twisted, asking for its references, drawn both from the geographical elements (HISTORICAL DYSIUM of SPARTA) and from the references to the landmarks of the space. The composition is a synthesis of REPEATED and finally TRANSFORMED LEVELS, referring to the immediate and distant past.
The composition of the exterior form focuses on the juxtaposition of two elements: the robust, impregnable, impregnable, inward-looking prismatic volume of the exhibition spaces – the new shell, in contrast to the sociability of the existing listed building. There is a functional and symbolic dipole, which will be expressed in the form of : Pre-existing listed and Contemporary, Orthogonal and Paragon, Hidden and Overt, Heavy and Light, Solid and Transparent, Simple and Complex, and ultimately Myth and Reality.
Exhibition spaces are the shell in which TIME and SPACE change form. They cut you off from the present and travel you to other dimensions. The exhibition becomes a prism within another prism. The journey through the exhibition spaces is the journey through a transcendental geometric space. The fractured surface of the showcases ELECTS you from the entrance and then transports you to the next level and the next thematic section. This path realizes the path of ELEVATION – COMING – COMING – GOING.
In conclusion, the journey in the exhibition spaces is experienced through a certain rhythm of succession of emotions. The anticipated, once revealed, comes back from another angle and distance, evoking a variety of associations. The alternation of levels and the possibility of rest and discharge visually connect the neighbouring historical sites (Ancient Acropolis, Mystras, Altar of Eurotas, Sanctuary of Orthias Artemis).
